Knud Mikkelsen is a child of peace, born in Copenhagen 1945. He came to Sweden 1980. Romantic dreams about the Swedish forest put him on the train, riding on the current movement towards the rural parts of the country. He moved into the woods of Småland. Of cource there was a girl involved in the story.

– The first time I went into the forest, says Knud, my heart beat so hard I had to run out of it.
It was a teacher of art at the Lärarhögskolan, a college the produces teachers, that first inspired Knud to try and make it as an artist.
If I ever get famous, he said to Knud, it is because I was your teacher, he said to me one time, Knud remembers.

Since then he has had many exhibitions, both in Sweden and in Denmark. He has also done some work as an illustrator.
– I am a political and religious utopian and I wish to realize God’s kingdom and the communist society on earth, he says with conviction.
Knud has been married a few times and has four children and six grandchildren. The last wife left him after he got the Parkinson disease. Since then he lives and works with the help of personal helpers, provided by the state.
– I am inspired by Japanese woodcuts. I often depict man in an ordinary situation or in a surrealistic context.
Knud experiments the whole time and invents new techniques as he goes along. He rather gives his art away than try to create a name for himself amongst the fashionable galleries and wealthy collectors.
– There are a lot of unemployed people and pensioners that collect my pieces, he says proud.
